Extracurricular activities

During the school year

Throughout the school year we organise after-school child care groups for children with autism. They take part in various activities for a maximum of 16 hours per week, in accordance with the child-care provisions for people with autism approved by the care insurance.

The activities are based at Niederfeulen. The timetable is adapted to the pace, needs, skills and interests of each child.

Indoor activities comprise crafts, cooking, individual desk-based learning, sensory space, games, computer, etc. Among the outside activities are relational games, walks, swimming, animal park, amusement park, boating, shows.

We do everything to ensure that the environment is adjusted for the children (based on the TEACCH programme) to take account of the specificities of autism and the individual characteristics of each child.

Information exchange with the families is also a priority, whether on the care methods and activities on offer or regarding a specific child’s daily activities and progress. To this end, the family receives an email report every evening.

The opening times of the service are :

  • during school terms, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12.30 to 17.30, and Saturdays from 10.30 until 16.30
  • during school holidays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12.30 to 17.30 and Wednesdays from 11.30 to 17.30

The service is closed on public holidays as well as for 3 weeks during August and 1 week over Christmas.

There are presently 7 places in the group.

Transport from school to Niederfeulen on the school bus can be organised at the request of parents. Similarly, bus transport to the children’s homes can also be organised.

The service was set up in November 2012 so as to offer children with autism an after-school environment adapted to their needs. We offer a variety of activities that promote the development, autonomy and quality of life of each child. The service also gives families some time for themselves, or for other members of their families, or to go to work.

We would like to increase the size of our extra-curricular group. To this end, we hope to find a property in the near future that has sufficient space to offer additional places.

During the summer holidays

During the school summer holidays (from mid-July to mid-September) the Foundation offers suitable activities to children with autism in a pleasant and secure environment that is adapted to their needs.

We offer a wide variety of activities (crafts, sports, games, trampoline etc.) depending on the age of the children and their interests, as well as various outings (e.g. amusement parks, swimming pool, horse-drawn carriage, playgrounds). The children also benefit from contact with other children with autism.

The entire care concept is adjusted to the needs of the children and to the specificities of autism thanks to the use of weekly schedules and/or day programmes that the children can follow.

The children are looked after from 9.30 to 16.30, Mondays to Fridays. On request, the Fondation Autisme Luxembourg can organise transport through the Transport Ministry to and from the summer activities site in Niederfeulen. One educator from the Foundation looks after the children assisted by several students, interns or trainee carers (their numbers depend on the number of children). Children are aged between 5 and 14.

The service was created in 2010 to meet the high demand by parents who often have difficulty in finding appropriate care facilities for their children with autism during the long summer holidays. The service also gives parents some free time during the day without their children having to stay the night away from home.
