Principles

# Principles

Autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) vary from severe to moderate and inevitably cause significant lifelong disability. Consequently, persons with ASD need professional care from an early age onwards ; for the rest of their lives they require protection on different levels, continuous care and opportunities to integrate in the community. Developing their unique potential and improving their quality of life will be more dependent on the availability and suitability of quality care than on the severity of their disability.

The principles underlying care provided by the **Foundation** are largely based on the following :

- family involvement in decision-taking
- education models such as TEACCH, PECS
- tailor-made education programmes
- reducing or even withdrawing neuroleptic medication
