The Annual General Meeting of Autisme Europe is held in Luxembourg for the first time.
The Annual General Meeting of Autisme Europe is held in Luxembourg for the first time. The Fondation Autisme Luxembourg (FAL) has been an active member of Autisme Europe aisbl for a number of years and was delighted to welcome to Luxembourg the members of 80 organisations from 30 countries for their 2014 AGM.
The General Meeting is an important event for the FAL as it is an opportunity to share knowledge and good practice with other members of Autisme Europe.
On 2nd May, the members of Autisme Europe visited the FAL’s residential and day-care centres in Munshausen that have been furnished in accordance with the TEACCH programme. On 3rd May the members could attend a workshop on the subject « Autism and Employment ». Mr Florian Michaelsen from the international organisation SAP AG presented SAP’s targeted recruitment programme for persons with autism.
According to Autisme Europe, between 76 and 90 percent of adults with autism are unemployed. The main obstacles are the lack of support to find and hold down employment and the stigma linked to autism. For persons with autism, employment means much more than simply having a job – it allows them to live a life that is more fulfilling and independent. Throughout the world large organisations are beginning to realise that employing persons with autism goes beyond philanthropy and corporate social responsibility : using their skills and creating a more diversified workforce actually contributes to their success, to the benefit of all involved.
The FAL thanks the legal firm Allen & Overy for sponsoring this important event in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
