2026: 30 Years of FAL

Return to the Beginnings of a Constant Effort

The year 2026 marks an important step for the Fondation Autisme Luxembourg. This year, we are celebrating 30 years of constant effort in favour of people presenting an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. Founded the 18th of June 1996, the FAL was born out of the urgent needs of parents faced by the lack of adapted structures for their autistic children.

Since its creation, the FAL's objective was clear: offering adapted services and a support which respects the special and specific needs of people with an ASD, and simultaneously supporting their families. Over the years, the foundation has progressively enlarged and diversified its services, in order to reply to an increasing amount of complex needs.

An important point the accusition of a piece of land in Munshausen, in 1999, which constitutes the birth of the housing service designed for people with autism. This project manifests itself in 2002, when the first 6 residents finally move in.

At the same time, the foundation pursues the creation of new services.Important steps in this development are the first organised vacation camp for children, in Weicherdange in August 2001, marking the birth of the Leisure service, the opening of two new residential units in Munshausen, the creation of the Diagnosis service, as well as the opening of the new site in Rambrouch. The housing site in Rambrouch contains, at this time, 3 housing units, the last one having opened in 2020. That same year, the first Autisport session is organised.

Over time, the FAL has been able to evolve and adapt to the rising needs of society. Today, around 240 people are employed at FAL, spread out over 5 different sites all over the country: Capellen, Munshausen, Rambrouch, Steinsel, and Belvaux.

The Future of the FAL

Over time, the FAL has developped continuously, all while never forgetting about its initial mission.

For the years to come, we will continue to pursue this effort with multiple already-planned projects. In this way, we are continuously looking for ways to improve the quality and the capacities of our services.

In the social sector, the new project aTypik SpAce, recently launched, aims to improve the well-being of people on the autism spectrum in the work place.

New housing projects, too, are in preparation, as well as other initiatives. Our main goal remains untouched: developing solutions while collaborating with the affected families, answering the specific needs of people with autism and supporting their well-being, their autonomy, and their inclusion in society.
